No Holds Barred...

"I can't believe that it's over, baby....
But every bruise on my heart, you gave me."
--Ashanti {Over}.

I know I've been M.I.A. (again)...but it's not in vain. I promise.
I've been debating how much I wanted to share on here, for various reasons. Mainly, the situation I wrote about in my last post took some time for me to adjust to, and it's rather embarrassing for a Leo like myself...I'm not used to losing, failing, etc. But I was reminded by fellow bloggers, friends, and family members that there's strength in telling one's story. Writing has always been my only true form of release. When I write, I imagine myself sitting in the mirror telling the story to myself...In it's own strange, kooky way, it gives me clarity...
So I'll start from the beginning, for those who don't know me in "real life", those who do know me but never knew the whole story, those who only know bits & pieces, etc.

When I was in high school...I met CB. I was involved with someone else at the time, so we became friends. He lived a couple states away, but we talked and wrote each other a LOT. After a few months, we became best friends. It took us both awhile to admit it (and by awhile, I mean like a year or so)...but obviously we became more than just friends. In 2006, a month into my freshman year of undergrad (he was still a senior in high school), I realized that I was in toooooo deep. But so was he. And at that moment, everything I ever saw for my future shifted. It all included him. A couple months later, we made it official.
The next year, he went off to college. I'd say we held on pretty tough for awhile. His freshman year was a lot different than mine. He's an athlete, he went Greek, etc. Of course the distance has always been a factor, but at the time we had goals that included one another, so we made it work. Better than most are capable of making things work even in close proximity...Graduation seemed to be the light at the end of our romantic tunnel..
Fast forward to 2010...
The phone calls became fewer and farther between. In my heart of hearts, I knew that something was wrong, but of course I didn't want to admit it...or even speak it into existence. But I'm a woman. And we know.... Yes, men. We always know. What we choose to DO in response to that knowledge depends on the person. And personally, I wanted so badly to believe that this was the same person I'd fallen in love with back in high school...the person who wrote me poetry and 11-page letters, and wrote my name surrounded by hearts in the corners of the pages. But in retrospect, that smitten boy had grown into a slightly older BOY. A boy whom I don't recognize, or care to know at this point.
When I wrote my last post, I was in a completely different headspace than the one I'm in right now. I'd just found out that CB had began seeing someone else. Obviously, right? Lol. But at the time, I was in such a cycle of emotion, and I couldn't fathom leaving the comfort zone that had been built during my relationship with him. I was willing to listen, to understand, to try to reconcile....and ultimately, to settle (which is a realization that I recently came to). I thought that my world as I knew it wouldn't, and couldn't survive the loss of the person I thought belonged in my fairy-tale ending. So I did what a lot of women do. I reached out. I remained calm. I asked the questions I wanted answers to. I avoided those that I didn't want to know the answers to. Never realizing that I was simply dragging out the inevitable...because when someone's got one foot out of the door, there usually isn't much chance of getting them to come back in. Anywho...none of it mattered. Because my efforts weren't even responded to. Literally. Like I said, writing is my release....so I went back to the basics. I wrote a letter. A very personal, very transparent letter. I didn't want there to be any mistaking my stance on the matter at hand...or my desired solution. The letter laid everything I felt (at the time) completely on the table...and I'm not good at the whole vulnerability thing...but again, I trusted that I was putting these emotions into the proper hands. Clearly I was mistaken. My letter was sent in mid-February. The last conversation before I sent that letter....is the last communication of any sort that I had with him. No response. No return-to-sender. Nothing. And that's how 4+ years of my love life ended.
THEN, although I'd kept my mind from even dwelling on the elephant in the room (The Other Woman), a few days ago that little voice in my head spoke again...and I decided to do a little investigating. Lol... I don't trust anyone's information but my own these days, so I needed to find out first hand. When I did...I almost died. Laughing...... no, seriously...I laughed for a good 10 minutes when I saw who this chick was. I've never met her. Right now, I'm contemplating posting the pic of her that I posted on my FB wall when I found out (yes, I posted her pic. #ruthless)...just because I feel that you, as my loyal readers & cyber-friends deserve to laugh as wholeheartedly as I did that day. Yes, I think I'll post the pic.
And, by no means do I think cheating is all about aesthetics....Obviously there's something about this girl that was worth CB sacrificing his relationship with me. What that something is, I'll probably never know. It doesn't even matter...because the fact that that there IS a "something" is enough for me to realize it's time to let it go. I don't mean to boast, but damn if I don't brag...I mean, I really feel like he and I could have had it all. You'll never meet a person more loyal than me. I'm educated, raised well, take-home-to-mama type, well-mannered, well-dressed, gorgeous. Lady-in-the-streets.... lol... all that good stuff. So what is it that this girl gave him? Who knows.
The thing that hurts me the most is not the fact that I was cheated on by someone who I put the utmost trust into....I know this doesn't seem major to some people, and that chicks get cheated on erryday. Marriages end over infidelity...blah blah blah. But this is a first for me, and I've handled it the best way that I knew how. The thing that hurt me the most is the way that this situation was handled from his end. I won't go into detail about the letter I sent him, but just know that the bond I've had with this person since high school was so strong that I was willing to give up what we had, and be friends...that's how it all began anyway, right? I know people say "I want him/her to be happy even if it's not with me", but I sincerely meant that. I still mean it, after everything. So for me to open myself up to him, after ALL that I'd been put through...and receive no response? No acknowledgment that I'd poured my soul out in the form of ink from a ball-point pen? That's what hurts.
I keep asking myself how we ended up here... I don't have an answer, but every day that I sit back and think of what could have been (both good AND bad), I'm thankful. I don't have to see the face of betrayal everyday. I guess the long-distance thing was a gift and a curse. I didn't make the life changes that I had every intention of making (moving out to where he attends school, and possibly entering a graduate program there). I can't even imagine what I'd be feeling had I altered my entire life for someone who has no place for me in theirs. But again...I'm thankful. What's next for me? I'm not sure. I feel really "new" in the whole love scene. I've been with the same person virtually my entire adulthood thus far (from age 18 to 22), and so I feel like I have to go back and develop all the things that single, unattached people are supposed to develop lol... but I'm taking things a day at a time. I don't wish him any harm... I don't want to become bitter, but I do feel myself building a wall around my heart. To some, it may seem naive for me to have honestly expected forever with him...but I did. And it's rough starting all over. Involuntarily, I'd etched CB into my identity...so my first order of business is to continue on the path of success that I know has been paved for me. Hopefully he's on his own path. I don't know, for certain, that our paths will intertwine again. And for the first time in a long time, I'm feeling okay with that. ♥

PS: Here's that pic I promised y'all..... Lol.

Day 1--Letter to My Best Friend.♥

Am I allowed to write this to all 3 of my best friends, or do I have to choose one? F.ck it, this is my blog....I do what I want!!
Dear Lola,
Since 7th grade, we've been thick as thieves, and you're my original BFF. Til this day, we've never had an argument, big or small. We just...click. Even though I'm away at college, and we don't talk as much as we used to, or as much as we should, I'm glad that we have a real friendship that withstands the distance. I love your style, your spirit, and just everything you embody! You're always Kevona, no matter what the location or the situation...most people these days aren't that real. I love it, and I appreciate it, and I hope that we grow old and gray together as chic, strong, intelligent, beautiful Black best friends!
Dear Twink,
My Taco!! I never dreamed when I met you during high school, that you'd have such a lasting impact on my life. I love the way you carry yourself, and encourage growth and motivation in those around you. I couldn't ask for a better friend...the type who keeps it real 24/7, all the while giving encouragement and love that only a best friend could. We've been through a lot, helped each other through a lot, and you, me, and Lola have a bond that will never be broken, as long as I have anything to do with it! I want nothing but the best for you, not only because you deserve it, but because I know and truly believe that you want the same for me!
Dear Porkchop,
Hey bitch! Lol... Even though you're my newest bestie, I still love you like you've been here the whole time lol! We've done/seen/heard some CRAaaazzzzyyyy stuff in these few years we've known each other, and I wouldn't have it any other way lol. Through all the fakes, the phonies, the wannabes, and the has-beens, we've always had each other and that's more than enough for me! They say that if you can count your REAL friends on one hand, you're doing good. I've come to believe this, because it's really obvious in my life. I love the laughter, the cussing-b.tches-out, the tipsy adventures, the tattoos, the random Walmart trips, the venting sessions via text, FB, phone, or whatever's most convenient at the moment. and most of all...my Snookie!! Even though I'd never tell you verbally, because I'm too thuggish for that sh.t, I'm so grateful that you allowed me to be there to witness my Snookie F. Baby being brought into the world. I've never seen anything like it, and I love him! That'll always be a memory that's close to my heart! {OK, off that corny sh.t now lmao}
Love Always,
Me ♥

Stanky Face... ♥

Earlier today, I was walking through the mall with my bestie and I was getting SO frustrated! First off, I don't know what it is about Black girls (and yes, I'm directing it towards our people, because they're the people I catch doing it EVERYday, EVERYwhere) but for some reason many feel the need to look every other Black girl in the vicinity up and down. Why? And I know you all know the look I'm talking about...that stank, "she-think-she-all-that" look that about 99.7% of the Black female population likes to give off. I just hate it. It makes me want to punch chicks in the face. Depending on my mood, my reaction to the Stanky Face may be to 1) return it, or 2) smile and keep it moving, or 3) glance indifferently at the person because I'm too cool for that BS. Lol.
Second, what is it about moms and pregnant people that is just sooooo fascinating to random White people strangers? I can't even count the number of times when I've been out with my bestie and her son, and had weirdos trying to peep into the stroller/baby carrier, or wanting to touch his hair, or some other randomness. I get the whole "goo-goo ga-ga, he's so cute" thing, but WE DON'T KNOWWWW YOUUUUU! Lol. Gosh!
Another thing... I hate it when people wear leggings as pants. Why? Just don't do it...Apparently about 47% of the legging-wearing population didn't get the memo that the rule of thumb is, if it covers your ENTIRE {not half, or 3/4} butt, it's ok to wear with leggings. This applies to shirts, tunics, dresses, whatever... But if I can walk 4 feet behind you and see 1) the color, size tag, and design of your panties, 2) the fact that you're not wearing any panties, or 3) every dimple/bullethole/stretch mark/pimple, etc on your toosh...mayyyyybe you should do us all a favor and put on some damn pants! It's nasty!

Happyyyyyyyyy!♥

Ok people, how are all of your weekends going?? Mine has been great...
I'm still reeling from the Grey's Anatomy season 6 finale...for all my fans out there...whew! Shonda took us for a ride this time, huh? Excellent stuff! I can't wait to glue myself to the TV all over again next season...my prediction: Meredith didn't really lose McBaby. I think he'll be making an appearance. Hopefully the Chief will resume his position. I wish with all my heart that Burke could come back and he and Cristina could be happily ever after...but we all know that's not possible. I don't like Cristina + Owen...he's just not my cup of tea.
Anyways....
I don't usually like surprises {mainly because I usually know about the 'surprise' before I receive it} but my love and my best friend got me yesterday! I was lounging around and my best friend asked me if I could babysit my godson while she and her husband went to the movies...so of course I said fine, bring him on over. In retrospect, this makes sense, but earlier in the day my boyfriend had been asking a bunch of questions like what's one wish you have right now {of course my answer was I wish he was here with me} or how would you feel if I were with you right now {and no, he didn't ask that in a dirty way...for you gutter-brains}...and just dropping a million hints. Well anyway, my best friend and hubby came to drop the baby off, then left. 5 minutes later, I hear her key turning and she walks back in, saying she forgot something. So I'm looking around like what could she have forgotten...and in walks my boyfriend behind her! He'd called her when he arrived in town, so she was in on the surprise, too. I was so happy. My dozen pink roses and my bottle of wine made me even happier! They got me sooooo good, and as I've said before, my love and I don't see one another as often as we'd like because of our long-distance relationship, so I've learned to cherish all the little visits and time we have together. It was a great weekend!

Coming from Where I'm From...♥

Is it bad that I don't like going to my hometown? Like, ever? Home is definitely not where my heart is.
I love seeing my family, and my best friends...but that's the extent of my warmth and fuzziness. Every time I go "home", I feel gloomy and closed in, and just surrounded by do-nothing people doing...nothing. I don't know if it's me being older and developing my own way of seeing (like really seeing) things, or the fact that I, unlike many people in the 'hood have been around to some other places since I left home for college. Either way, I just don't see how someone could spend their entire life in one place and have no desire, no motivation to upgrade. I'm a product of my family and their morals and values...but I'm not a product of my environment by any means. I have no desire to return to that place. Especially not permanently. On some level, I recognize that in it's own way, your neighborhood contributes to who you become. Whether that contribution is positive or negative, there is some influence from the place you spent most, if not all, of your childhood...but that's the extent of my appreciation. I get crap for this all the time, but that doesn't mean I'm going to change my mind. Call it what you want, but I don't see any problem with wanting more...

In it For the Long Haul! ♥

I'm in a long-distance relationship. I've been involved with my love for the last 3 years (romantically) but we evolved from acquaintances to friends to best friends prior to "going steady" lol. So when someone asks me about my relationship, and they learn our locational dysfunction, I always get the "What the Hell" face lol. When they find out that my boyfriend is an athlete and member of a fraternity, it's even worse. Frequently asked questions?
1) Why did y'all decide to do that???
2) How do you know he's not cheating on you while he's all the way over there?
3) Do you have a little piece on the side to hold you over? {really? wtf!}
4) How do you keep up with him?
My answers remain the same...
We didn't set out with the idea to become long-distance loves. LoL. Who would do that to themselves?? Lmao. It just sorta happened.
I've never doubted in my mind that my boyfriend was being faithful to me. For one, he's never given me reason to doubt him. That's the problem with relationships today, we go into it thinking that men/women who cheat are the norm, and faithful ones are the exception. For me, I've learned that a strong foundation can completely erase all that. Had my love and I not bonded so much over the period of being friends and best friends, prior to entering a romantic relationship...we probably wouldn't be together. When we enter relationships right after meeting a person, we tend to present this image of what we think the other person wants to see. Think about it, how many times have you met a cutie and tried to act like you were the sweetest, hottest, most chill chick/dude in the world? Knowing good and well that you're a train wreck in the morning and a bitch in the afternoon? Lol....but really though?
It's easier when you've gotten to know...and I mean REALLY know someone...before getting romantic with them. All those things you would normally only tell your girls/homies/diary/journal are the quirks and things that help a person see the real you...and once you've seen someone's REAL self, the petty things don't seem so important in the process it takes to keep a romantic relationship together. That's where my love and I stand. Yes, we're hundreds of miles away, but he's got my heart and I know I have his. Nothing in between those hundreds of miles should change that, and if something were to change it, that would tell me that our foundation wasn't as strong as we thought it was!
So no, there's no "side piece" to hold me over lol...and as far as keeping up with him? We're both grown. College students. I work. He does sports and frat stuff. We have lives of our own, even though our lives are intertwined! I don't want to ever be that girl who calls and texts every second of every minute to see where my man is, who he's with, what he's doing, and what color his draws are lmao. It's unnecessary. And if you think about it, that kind of behavior breaks people up more often than keeping them together. Because I wish a ni**a would be questioning me like that! {enter: neck pop & an eye roll}
My point: When you trust and communicate with someone, anything is possible. Get to know them first. Their qualities, their goals, their needs and wants. All that... in the long run, already knowing that information should help determine IF you should be in a relationship with them, not HOW your relationship operates!
