Spring Break! ♥
I'm officially on Spring Break...as of this past Thursday evening.
I'm loving it! I plan on doing absolutely nothing...well, besides the few days I have to work, which I won't complain about since this skeezer FINALLY got the ax resigned from her position. Life IS indeed good...
Anywho, since I already took my lil' mini vacation (lol) I'm just maxxin and relaxxin...listening to the new Raheem DeVaughn ,shuffled in with the old, forever-emblazoned-in-my-heart Raheem, of course. I don't know what it is about that man's voice but it does warm, fuzzy, heart-fluttery things to me...and I love it! In the car, at home, wherever! That's called quality music...I know I used this pic in my Valentine's Day post, but I think it's so adorable that it's definitely worth posting again lol :-)
I'm currently working on an essay about how the Black Family is under/misrepresented in the media, and how this under/misrepresentation is effecting upcoming generations, which are coincidentally ALL wrapped up in the media. It's a topic that just kinda came to me, as I was looking at a photograph of this gorgeous, young married couple I know. It's crazy because if one were to rely on the media's representation of Black Love, they'd be led to believe that...well...there is no love. We're just a bunch of unwed, unloved, unloving babymamas/daddies running rampant. There ARE loving relationships among a lot of Black people. There ARE couples who marry, and raise beautiful families, and live the so-called American dream. But again, one would never know that if they relied on the media's representation of our people. So...yeah. I'm excited to write about such a topic.

My Favorite Love Song. Ever. In Life.♥
I've loved this song since as long as I can remember, and I had to share since I've been ranting about it to any and everyone who will listen. I heard Mya's cover of it, which I adore. You'll definitely recognize the melody from LL Cool J's "Hey Lover" (also, one of my all-time faves)...and though I don't do award shows, I watched Ne-Yo perform this song on the BET awards this year. Love him! I don't care what anyone else says, he did this song justice in my heart! Anyway, for those who choose to listen (or who already know and love the song), hope you enjoy the song as much as I do. I wish it were one of his more popular songs, but it's a #1 hit to me, regardless!! My heart won't let me go without having this song somewhere on my blog. That's how much I adore it!!

PS: Here is a link to Mya's cover of the song, as well as LL & Boyz II Men's classic 'Hey Lover' ♥

Live Saturday Night♥
Sooo today was a great day! I got called into work at the last minute, but I wasn't complaining because 1) I got paid lol and 2) I got to meet and host our in-store event for Priscilla Renea!! I had so much fun, and I love that our company (Hot Topic, Inc) does 'listening parties' for great artists, who are either established or up-and-coming, For those who haven't heard of her, Priscilla Renea is a pop artist who was discovered on YouTube. She writes, sings, and plays the guitar (which, in my eyes, makes anyone amazing!) and on top of all that, she's adorable! She was really sweet and mellow, I hope she stays that way and doesn't become one of those diva-ish chicks, because I can tell she's on her way to becoming a bigger star than she already is! It was soo cute to see her fans lined up in the food court of our mall watching Priscilla perform, as well as in our store to get pictures and autographs. We took mad pics with her, but IDK I guess we have to wait until the photographer gets them back to us or whatever...or maybe some will pop up on her MySpace or something. If I see any floating around, I'll post. Anyway, I don't see how people in the industry do it, because she was completely patient and sweet to every single person who came through the door, and those screaming lil' girls were enough to drive a mutha crazy! They were adorable, though, excitedly talking about hanging their autographed posters in their bedrooms and their lockers at school... I got me a poster too lol :-)
Then I got to attend The Listening, which is kind of an open mic night every Saturday for rappers, singers, and poets. It's held in an art gallery, which I love, and it's just great to go out and do something different on Saturday nights, because the club scene got really old really fast for me! It's fun to hang out with people my age who are interested in more than the latest Gucci lyric and making it rain on h*es at the club, buying bottles they know they can't afford! I digress... Anyway, excuse my hot messness in this pic, I looked way cuter earlier, but it was a long day lol. This is after to wardrobe changes and all the jewelry being removed lol. I'm still cute though!
I should probably be working on my final paper for my Hate Crimes class... One more week of classes, 1 final, then this semester is over! Praise Him! Lol

If you don't know who this man is by now...we'll let it slide for today, because it's Tuesday.
But you really need to get to know him. Or at least his music.
Raheem DeVaughn is amazing.
That is all.

OMG!!!♥
Soooo I was just too excited and I had to tell someone...
I'm in love...
With the show Criminal Minds.
It's like amazingness, wrapped up in awesomeness, with a side of "Oh hell yes!!!" Where has this show BEEN all my life??? Shemar Moore, an underlying love story, AND my dream job (Behavior Analyst/Criminal Profiler)??? Don't play!
I think the episode I just watched (which clearly ended half an hour ago, and I'm still raving about it) is my favorite so far!!
Bottom Line: The team was looking for a killer, who they discovered was a cannibal, and during the search party for the most recently kidnapped victim, the cannibal actually FED the volunteers a chili. Main ingredient: the girl they were searching for! OMG. What???
Lol. So I guess I have this little fascination/intrigue with cannibalism.
The Silence of the Lambs has been my favorite movie pretty much forever. Of course, Hannibal Lecter is my favorite movie character of all time. Not because I think cannibalism is cool or anything....I'm just interested in the cannibal. I'd love to study them!!
So again, I say...OMG!

The Best Love Letter I've Ever Read...♥
The video below pretty much speaks for itself, but for those who just don’t get it, this artist, Jasiri X, is dedicating this piece to Debra Lee, the current CEO of Black Entertainment Television. Jasiri X is ON POINT, if you’re into the whole truth-speaking, consciously lyrical thing. If you aren’t, you need to wake up.
Listen to the track. Support the artist. He embodies what real hip-hop was and still is, no matter how miniscule the mainstream attention is. Here's his YouTube. Google him. Whatever you need to do... You won't regret checking him out!
We spend so much time listening to what we’re TOLD is “hot”, instead of listening to real music and deciding for ourselves. I touched on the issue of conscious hip-hop artists not selling in a previous post, and this is why. It’s hard to hear what’s real in a world run by white corporate men who make their living off of making Black people look like damn fools on a network that’s supposed to uplift us and celebrate our culture. White men who stick a few token Black faces on their payroll but still remain behind the scenes making all the decisions that affect what we see on TV everyday (if you choose to watch the foolishness). I mean honestly, have you ever thought about the limited images of us that are presented on television? We can argue all day long that there are images of white people on TV that are pretty disgusting, but does that correlate with the number of hot-mess images of black people on TV? No. Especially when you can count on one hand the networks that actually represent us as a whole... and the images we put out are the Frankies, Neffies, and such... I know those are supposed to be representative of "real" Black people, but gosh...We could do and be so much more… yet we’re limited to what puts the most money into the pockets of certain people. Unfortunately, modern day shucking and jiving are the cash cow these people are banking on, and even more unfortunate is the fact that we’ve been too brainwashed to even want to see it. Even the Black faces who have the power to change things seem to be content with these representations of our people, and there you have the above video dedicated to the lovely Ms. Lee.
We’ve bred a whole new generation of kids who don’t see anything past the surface, because that’s all today’s media shows them. Champagne-sipping, booty-shaking, money-tossing niggas, bitches, and hoes.
So who’s to blame? The networks for airing it? The artists for making it? Or the viewers for not knowing any better?…

Random Lyrics i Love♥
“Shorty paint her face like a clown, but can’t take away the frown found under the makeup.
I asked her what’s her passion, answer was the paper; she sleepin’, they don’t want her to wake up.
I asked her what’s her passion, answer was the paper; she sleepin’, they don’t want her to wake up.
Maybe then she realized her own beauty, baby you’re a star, not just the star of some dude’s home movies…”

Spotlight: Melanie Fiona♥
Sooo some of my friends have heard me ranting and raving about this lady for awhile now, and since she performed on the Wendy Williams show last month (fabulous, by the way!), now many more people are beginning to hop on the 'wagon (you know how we do lol)...but any who, Melanie Fiona's song "Give it to Me Right" is clearly a hit! Other favorites of mine include "Somebody Come Get Me", "Island Boy", and "Bang Bang". So I decided to do a little Spotlight on Miss Melanie, just to bring y'all up to speed, so you can stop sleeping on her!! PS: Melanie's album The Bridge is fabulous, so grab a copy, and enjoy!!♥ Melanie Fiona hails from Toronto, Canada. Her parents are Guyanese immigrants, and Melanie grew up listening to her father play guitar with his band. Melanie's music is an amazing blend of her Caribbean roots, classic soul, and R&B with a side of Pop. It's hard to fit into one box-sized category, which makes it all the more refreshing and lovely to listen to! Melanie toured last year with Kanye West, before her album had even been finished. She's currently on tour promoting her album, The Bridge, so check her website for a show near you! If you haven't heard her music by now, you can scroll down to my music player (at the bottom of this blog). She's adorable! I listen her music EVERY morning when I'm getting dressed. It just makes me wanna get pretty and fabulous for the day!

Come Back!!!!
Am I the only one out there who loved BET's show Harlem Heights? Perhaps lol. I miss it, and I wish it would return to the air!! Don't judge me! I mean, sure, the characters could have had a TAD more personality lol...but I got the idea of it. At least there was some portrayal of a different breed of Black people on TV for awhile! It's just sad that the people who probably needed to see that were the people who probably flicked right past Harlem Heights because it was too "boring" for them...Why is it that Black people only want to see our people on TV acting a damn fool? Then we complain about the image other people have of us. Here's the thing: it's all about the money in this world! If all we support is Black people on TV acting a fool, then that's all executives are gonna keep putting on TV! And if that's all the executives put on TV, that's what's going to represent our race as far as other races are concerned. I mean, let's face it: Many people don't know a Black person, but can sure name some from TV! Guess who they're gonna be able to name? Flava Flav, Real and Chance, some rapper, or some athlete. (I started to say Tiger Woods, but he's probably still not sure of his Blackness yet...) My point is that maybe Harlem Heights wasn't the best show ever, but I loved the alternative it showed as opposed to music videos, Cops, and VH1, where hot messes are running rampant....

Ummm, Hater Much? ♥
Why do people continue to hate on Rihanna??? Every time I see her on a website, someone's either dwelling the Chrihanna scandal (let it thee fuck go!!!), questioning her wardrobe, or now it's criticizing her hair, saying she needs a touch up lol!!! I honestly think that it's human nature to want to feel better than someone. That's my theory until proven otherwise! But really, I mean think about it. You can walk out of your house, looking, smelling, feeling like a million bucks...but as soon as you lay eyes on someone else who might be feeling them self just as much, you turn your eyes up, suck your teeth, and sigh. Lol... don't lie, you've done it. Because as fabulous as you think you are, you can't stand to see someone who might be feeling more fabulous than you Why is this?
I think people hate on Rihanna because she's so damn fierce and she does what the hell she wants. She wears what she wants. She's who she wants to be. Regardless of what you think and how the hell you feel about it! I love it {Wendy voice} lol!! You'll become well acquainted with the fact that I adore Rihanna! Lol...I'll admit, I used to have the hater face on, but when she let go of that image that her labels and execs wanted her to have, and became her true edgy self...I think I may have fallen in LoVe!!! {and I say that in the most no-homo-ish way possible lmao}...she's just the ShiT. Plain and Simple!!♥ Now back to the matter at hand::: I constantly notice Black girls/women with this hater mentality...NOT saying that other people don't have it...it's just that right now I'm living in a predominantly White area and...well...us Black people notice each other in a crowd easier lol. It's like magnetic pull making you see the other Black people in the vicinity wherever you go, because they stick out of the sea of White people you're swimming in every day! Lol... so my question is, why are there only a select few of us who'd rather give a compliment than an eye roll? Is it an Alpha female thing, is it an "I wanna be the most fabulous Black girl in the room" thing? What is it? I'd really love to know! x0x0♥
